James Porter, Jr. has an extensive work experience in various engineering roles at prominent companies. Starting as a Mechanical Engineer II at Applied Materials in 2004, they progressed to higher levels at FormFactor Inc., where they held roles such as Sr. Engineer and Principal Engineer in Mechanical Design. James further advanced in their career at Proteus Digital Health, Inc., transitioning from Staff Engineer to Wearables Operations Leader. Later, at Berkeley Lights, Inc., they served as Director of Research & Development and Director of Quality. Currently, at Element Biosciences, they hold the position of Sr. Staff Design Engineer and has been promoted to Associate Director of Mechanical Engineering.

James Porter, Jr. completed their high school education at Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) from 1995 to 1997. James then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in 2001. Following this, they furthered their education at the same institution, earning a Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering from 2002 to 2004.
