Arnaud Devie

Senior Staff Battery Engineer at Element Energy

Arnaud Devie has extensive work experience in the field of battery engineering and research. Arnaud is currently employed as a Senior Staff Battery Engineer at Element Energy, Inc. since October 2019. Prior to this, they worked as a Consultant at White Box Batteries, LLC from October 2018 to December 2019, where they provided engineering services for energy storage systems and consulted for a battery management system company. Arnaud also developed battery data analysis and simulation web applications during this time.

From April 2017 to October 2018, Arnaud worked as a Battery System Scientist at Maxim Integrated, where they focused on the characterization of lithium-ion cells for fuel gauging IC. Arnaud also implemented fuel gauging algorithms and conducted modeling and simulation of cell balancing and degradation in a pack.

Arnaud's earlier work experience includes being a Battery Researcher (Post-Doctoral Fellow) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) from February 2013 to December 2016. Here, they conducted analysis on the degradation of lithium-ion batteries using a unique, non-destructive method called incremental capacity analysis (ICA).

Arnaud also worked as a Battery Researcher (Ph.D. candidate) at IFSTTAR (French institute of science and technology for transport, development and networks) from October 2009 to November 2012, where they carried out research on batteries.

Arnaud's earlier experiences include being an Electrical System Engineer for Projet Sol'R - the World's first solar-powered air blimp, where they designed and built the blimp, and an M.Sc. Intern at INSA Lyon, Ampere Lab, where they investigated the electrical properties of 4H-Silicon Carbide devices.

Arnaud also has experience as a Production Intern - Equipment Qualification at SAFT Batteries, where they worked on equipment qualification for quality control processes.

Arnaud Devie began their education in 2004 at INSA Lyon - Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon. Arnaud pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering and completed their studies in 2009, earning the title of "Dipl. Ing." During their time at INSA Lyon, Arnaud Devie also participated in an exchange program at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 2007-2008.

Following their undergraduate studies, Arnaud Devie continued their education at the University of Lyon, France. From 2009 to 2012, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Lithium-ion batteries.

In addition to their formal education, Arnaud Devie obtained two certifications. In 2013, they completed the Hazardous Waste Generator Training at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Arnaud also completed the Laboratory Safety Training at the same institution in February 2013.
