Stephen Johnson

Stephen Johnson is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in patent prosecution and management within the pharmaceutical sector. Currently serving as a Director at Eli Lilly and Company since October 2025, Stephen has held previous positions as Director of Patent Prosecution at Verve Therapeutics and Senior Patent Prosecutor at Johnson Matthey. Early roles include patent prosecution at USAMRIID and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, as well as leadership as Head Patents at Sun Pharmaceuticals. Earlier in the career, Stephen contributed significantly as a Senior Patent Prosecutor at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research and Wyeth BioPharma. Academically, Stephen holds a Postgraduate Degree in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, has completed an NSF Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Chemistry, Medicine, and Materials Science at UCLA, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Southern Illinois University. Currently, Stephen is pursuing an Executive MBA in Pharmaceutical Sciences at MIT Sloan School of Management.
