Darrell Irvine

Dr. Darrell Irvine, the co-founder of Elicio, today serves the company as a consultant and as chairman of its Scientific Advisory Board.

Dr. Irvine is a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, and works as an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research focuses on the application of engineering tools to problems in cellular immunology and the development of new materials for vaccine and drug delivery. He also serves on the steering committee of the Ragon Institute of Massachusetts General Hospital, MIT, and Harvard University.

Dr. Irvine has received numerous professional honors, including the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award and selection as a Beckman Young Investigator. He also is an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, a fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society, holds numerous patents, and has authored over 80 publications, reviews, and book chapters.

Dr. Irvine earned a doctorate in polymer science at MIT, and subsequently conducted research in immunology at Stanford University. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering physics from the University of Pittsburgh.
