Richard Mikel possesses extensive experience in public safety and fire service leadership. Currently, Richard serves on the Public Safety Advisory Committee at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, while also fulfilling the role of Fire Chief in Elk Grove Village, IL, since August 2012, overseeing three fire stations with a staff of 90 personnel. Previously, Richard held the position of Director of Police, focusing on leadership development and emergency management. Further contributions include serving as Past President of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, a Certified Promotional Assessor with the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal, and a Peer Reviewer for the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Richard's background includes leadership roles in various fire departments, including Deputy Fire Chief in Downers Grove and Naperville, and serving as a Planning Section Chief for the Illinois Incident Management Team. Richard holds a Master's Degree in Public Safety Administration from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and is an Executive Fire Officer graduate from the USFA National Fire Academy.
