Lydia Benger, P.E. has a diverse work experience. Lydia began their career in 2006 as a Resident Advisor for the Illinois Institute of Technology. In 2007, they were an Engineering Intern for The Chamberlain Group, Inc. In 2008, they were a Facilitator for the Museum of Science and Industry. From 2009 to 2012, they were a Mechanical Engineer for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, where they were involved in the technical work management of a ship alteration on naval vessels and the design of a new corporate software suite. Lydia also prepared technical documentation for maintenance and repair. In 2012, they became a Technical Manager and Marine Engineer for the Elliott Bay Design Group.

Lydia Benger obtained their Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology between 2005 and 2009. In December 2013, they received their Professional Engineer certification from the Washington State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
