Joe (Shuhao) Shi

Joe (Shuhao) Shi has a diverse work experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Joe (Shuhao) worked at Eloxx Pharmaceuticals as an Associate Director/Senior Research Fellow, where they focused on drug discovery through total synthesis and semi-synthesis of macrolides. Joe (Shuhao) designed and synthesized macrolides for IND candidates in various therapeutic areas, including RDEB, FAP, and Gram-negative bacteria targeting UTI. Joe (Shuhao) also developed a novel synthetic route for scaling up these compounds for animal studies and clinical trials.

Prior to their role at Eloxx Pharmaceuticals, Joe was a Senior Investigator II at Bristol-Myers Squibb. Joe (Shuhao) led a medicinal chemistry team and played a key role in early phase programs in neuroscience and virology. Joe (Shuhao) was specifically involved in driving program SAR for the INFLUENZA program.

Joe (Shuhao) Shi has an extensive education history in the field of Chemistry. Joe (Shuhao) received their Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry from Sun Yat-sen University. Joe (Shuhao) then pursued further studies at the Graduate School of Academia Sinica, where they obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Physical Chemistry. Following this, Joe went to Columbia University to earn their Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. After completing their Ph.D., they joined The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California as a Postdoctoral Fellow, specializing in Organic Synthesis.
