Thom Nelson has been in the field of genetics since 2006. Thom began as a Teaching Assistant and Independent Researcher at Kalamazoo College, then moved on to become an Assistant Scientist at Essen BioScience in 2009. In 2011, they began their graduate studies at the University of Oregon, where they served as a Graduate Trainee in Genetics and a Graduate Teaching Fellow. In 2017, they began a Postdoctoral Researcher position at the University of Montana. Most recently, they have been employed as a Sr Scientist I and Statistical Geneticist at Embark Veterinary since 2020.
Thom Nelson received their BA in Biology and Environmental Studies from Kalamazoo College in 2009. Thom then went on to obtain their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Oregon in 2016. In 2022, they completed a Certificate in Leadership Essentials from Cornell University.
