Most recently, Kumi served for four years as the Chief Business Development and Strategy Officer of Columbus-based Root Insurance (NASDAQ: ROOT). Root is an insurance company founded on the belief that people who drive well are less likely to get into accidents, and that those people should pay less for insurance. Root assigns rates primarily from actual driving data from its mobile app to determine who is a safe driver and who is not. By only providing insurance to safe drivers, Root can offer more-affordable rates to all of its policyholders.
Prior to Root, Kumi held leadership roles with extensive business development experience across a number of technology-driven industries. Most recently, Kumi was General Manager of Live Video, and Global Head of Platform Business Development during his time at Twitter, where he helped launch the premium live video business at the company and led go-to-market and strategy for Twitter’s SDKs and APIs.
Prior to Twitter, Kumi was Head of Business & Corporate Development at StackMob (sold to PayPal), a mobile API creation and management platform, where he led the acquisition of Strobe HTML5 technology and launched an API Marketplace for mobile application businesses.
In addition to his primary professional duties, Kumi serves as a Member of the Board of Directors for M/I Homes (NYSE: MHO) one of the highest rated home builders in the country, and Olive.ai, one of the fastest growing healthcare technology companies in the world. Kumi is also a Board Member for the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA), and leader of the Bexley Minority Parents Alliance.
Kumi has a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University, studied at King’s College London, and received his Master of Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. While at Brown, he was a four-year varsity soccer team player and a two-time Ivy League champion.
