Sam Hawkins is a seasoned data professional with extensive experience in meteorological insights and renewable energy forecasting. As Data Programme Director and Data Lead at Ember since November 2022, Sam has focused on leveraging data for strategic initiatives. Prior experience at Vattenfall, as a Senior Data Scientist since August 2011, involved the development and application of machine learning algorithms to forecast renewable energy generation using Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models. Earlier roles include a PhD Researcher studying UK wind resource variability at the University of Edinburgh, leading renewable projects with rural communities at the Scottish Institute of Sustainable Technology, and conducting energy-economic modeling at the Policy Studies Institute. Sam holds a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology from the University of Edinburgh, an MA in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, and an MSc in Sustainable Development from the University of Stirling.
