Gerald Pfister has extensive work experience in the field of flow cytometry. Gerald is currently serving as the Head of the Flow Cytometry Facility at EMBL, where they offer personalized flow cytometric services to researchers. Prior to this, Gerald worked as the Manager of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility at the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, providing access to advanced instrumentation and support for flow cytometry and cell sorting. Gerald also worked as a European Flow Cytometry & Sorting Training Specialist at BD Biosciences. Gerald began their career as a Researcher and Cell Sorting Facility Operator at FIOCRUZ, where they focused on immunosenescence and T-cell leukemia. Gerald later became a Researcher and Head of the Cell Sorting and Confocal Microscopy Facility at the Institute for Biomedical Aging Research, conducting research on endothelial cell stress response and naïve T-cells in immunosenescence.
Gerald Pfister holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biological and Biomedical Sciences, which they obtained from the Medizinische Universität Innsbruck from 2003 to 2006. Prior to that, they completed a PhD in Zoology/Animal Biology at Paris Lodron Universität Salzburg from 1995 to 1999. Gerald also holds a Master's degree in Environmental Biology from Universität Innsbruck, obtained in 1995. In addition, they obtained the International Cytometry Certification Examination (ICCE) certification from Castle Worldwide, Inc., ISAC, CYTO in December 2014.
