Geoffrey Gurtner

Geoffrey Gurtner has extensive work experience in the field of surgery and research. Geoffrey currently serves as the Professor and Chair of Surgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson. Prior to this position, they worked at Stanford University, where they held various roles including Johnson and Johnson Distinguished Professor of Surgery, Emeritus, Inaugural Vice Chairman of Surgery for Innovation, Professor and Vice Chairman of Surgery, and Associate Professor of Surgery. Their work at Stanford focused on plastic surgery and research projects related to stem cell biology, fibrosis and scar formation, tissue engineering, and sutureless anastomosis.

In addition to their academic positions, Gurtner has also been involved in entrepreneurial ventures. Geoffrey was the Founder and Director of Neodyne Biosciences, Inc, a company focused on developing innovative tissue repair devices to minimize scar formation. Geoffrey also founded Arresto Biosciences and Synvascular Inc. Furthermore, they served as the General Partner of the TauTona Group, a venture capital firm.

Gurtner's earlier work experience includes positions at New York University School of Medicine, where they were an Associate Professor of Surgery and Cell Biology, and at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, where they served as a Microsurgery Fellow and Junior Faculty. Geoffrey also completed their residency and internship at Harvard Medical School.

Geoffrey Gurtner obtained an AB degree in Biochemistry from Dartmouth College. Geoffrey then pursued their MD degree in Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, from 1984 to 1989.
