Irene McEwen

Resident Council President at Emerald Heights

Irene McEwen has retired from a long and distinguished career in higher education, with expertise in Rehabilitation Sciences.

Raised in Everett, Washington, Ms. McEwen earned both her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy and master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Washington.

Soon she found her

“dream job,” working with children with developmental disabilities in public schools. In the late 1980s, she earned her doctorate in special education from Purdue University and accepted a faculty position in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. There she spent the next 23 years of her career teaching physical therapy and occupational therapy students in professional and post-professional programs.
