Jonathan Ortega is an accomplished student currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and an Innovation & Entrepreneurship Certificate at Duke University, expected to graduate in May 2027. Jonathan has gained valuable experience as an EMERGE Scholar since May 2021, contributing to a non-profit that supports underserved students in higher education. An upcoming internship as a Software Engineer at the Duke University Code+ Program involves developing a web application for an AI model backed by Apple. Previous roles include working as a Scanner/Cashier at Joe V's Smart Shop and participating in a short-term Full Stack internship at Wells Fargo focused on fintech. Jonathan has also completed a NOLS expedition, enhancing leadership and survival skills, and was selected for the NASA HAS program, which fosters young talent in science and engineering through hands-on experience. Jonathan holds an Associate of Science from Lone Star College and a High School Diploma from Victory Early College High School.

EMERGE students graduate at eight times the national average for students in their demographic, frequently with minimal debt. Even more, they learn to maximize their unique strengths and talents and embrace their identities to become influential leaders in their own lives and communities.
