Ben Macrae has over four years of professional experience in data engineering, data science, project analysis, information and governance management, project research, and daily brief writing. In 2021, they began work as a Data Scientist at EmergeIQ, where they are developing and implementing machine learning models. In 2020, they worked as a Data Engineer at Allianz Partners UK, reverse engineering and documenting existing systems and then using their knowledge as a designer on an Agile team migrating a database to the Azure Cloud. In 2018, they worked as a Project Analyst at Quick Release (Automotive) Ltd, where they were responsible for coordinating a team of engineers designing a solution to a problem in a bespoke SAP infrastructure. In 2017, they worked as an Information and Governance Manager at Education Partnerships Africa, where they quickly adapted and redesigned the charity member databases in Google Sheets. Ben also worked as a Project Researcher, conducting interviews with fifty head teachers and heads of departments, and acquiring and studying a government survey dataset. In 2018, they authored an article for Oxford Analytica's Daily Brief, describing the systemic risks associated with using AI in financial regulation. In 2016, they worked as a Research Intern at the Oxford Atmospheric Oceanic and Planetary Physics Department, using Matlab to justify and apply a statistical clustering technique on several weather simulation datasets.
Ben Macrae attended Hampton School from 2007 to 2014. Ben then went on to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Physics at the University of Oxford from 2014 to 2017. In 2018 and 2019, they completed an MSc in Machine Learning at UCL. Additionally, they have obtained certifications in SAS Programming 1: Essentials (2020), Statistical Inference (2018), Getting and Cleaning Data (2018), and R Programming (2018).
