Joanna Vallie

Nursing Director Professional Development at Emerson Hospital

Joanna Vallie has a diverse work experience in the healthcare industry. Joanna started their career at St. Joseph Hospital in 1992, where they worked as a Staff RN, caring for laboring, postpartum, ante partum, and gynecological patients. Joanna also attended to labor patients' intraoperative procedures. In 1999, they became an Assistant Nurse Manager, responsible for the operational functioning of the 3-11 shift. Joanna'sduties included staff scheduling, performance reviews, and coaching. From 2003 to 2012, they served as the Director of St. Joseph Hospital, overseeing the MCH unit and its 500 annual deliveries.

In 2012, Joanna joined Emerson Hospital as the Director of OB, managing the Clough Birthing Center and its 1200 annual deliveries. Joanna also established partnerships with Massachusetts General Hospital for neonatal services and Brigham and Women's for maternal services. In 2019, they transitioned to the role of Nursing Director of Professional Development.

In addition to their hospital experience, Joanna has also worked as an Adjunct Faculty at Rivier University since 2014.

Joanna Vallie holds an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse from Rivier University, which they completed from 1990 to 1992. Joanna then pursued their Bachelor's degree in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse from Rivier University from 2003 to 2008. Later, they obtained a Master's degree in Nursing Administration from Vanderbilt University between 2009 and 2011. Currently, they are studying for a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Nursing Education at Western Connecticut State University, a program they started in 2018 and is expected to complete in 2022.
