Wa'el Alzayat has a diverse work experience spanning from 2000 to the present day. Wa'el has held various roles in different organizations. Most notably, they served as the Chief Executive Officer of Emgage, a national nonprofit empowering Muslim American voters. Wa'el oversaw the successful Million Muslim Votes campaign for the 2020 elections. Before that, they were an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University, teaching a course on the challenges in Iraq and Syria. Wa'el also worked as a Senior Policy Advisor to Ambassador Samantha Power at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, advising on national security issues in the Middle East. Additionally, they served as a Syria Outreach Coordinator and Senior Iraq Foreign Affairs Officer at the U.S. Department of State, providing policy support and coordination for initiatives in Iraq. Other roles include working at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, United States Institute of Peace, Janes, Henry L. Stimson Center, and co-founding an advertising consultancy company.
Wa'el Alzayat completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science & Middle East History from the University of California, Berkeley in 1997. Wa'el later pursued a Masters degree in Foreign Policy & International Security at Georgetown University from 2005 to 2007.
