Deforestation and degradation in tropical forests are among the leading causes of climate change and biodiversity loss. The European Union is the second-largest importer of forest risk commodities, responsible for embedded deforestation. In 2023, the EU approved the Deforestation-Free Products Regulation (EUDR) to tackle this issue. The EMMA4EU project, co-funded by the European Union, aims to connect different sectors and disciplines to unite higher education institutions, vocational training organizations, businesses, public organizations, and NGOs to establish an EU Alliance.

The Alliance will develop innovative training solutions and provide new professionals with transversal and digital skills (Deforestation-Free Supply Chain Managers) to support the transition to more sustainable supply chains for forest-risk commodities and comply with the Deforestation-free Products Regulation requirements.
