Mehdi El Ouali

Mehdi El Ouali is an experienced professional in strategic initiatives and leadership, currently serving as the Head of Strategic Initiatives at Empower since June 2024. Prior roles include Associate Vice President of Strategy at Power Corporation of Canada from August 2021 to June 2024 and Senior Solution Leader & Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company, where Mehdi led the AI ecosystem and provided client solutions from April 2011 to August 2021. Prior to the corporate sector, Mehdi held academic positions including Lead Fellow for the Tomlinson Project at McGill University and President of the Post-Graduate Students' Society, advocating for graduate students' interests. Mehdi holds a PhD in Nanotechnology from McGill University and an M.Sc. in Physics from EPFL, with additional studies at Carnegie Mellon University.
