Maria Sicilia has a diverse and extensive work experience in the energy and government sectors. Maria started their career as an Energy Counsellor at the Spanish Permanent Representation to the EU in 2002. Maria then became an Energy Adviser to the Secretary of State for Economy, Energy and SMEs at the Spanish Ministry of Economy in 2003.
In 2005, Maria worked as a Regulatory Economist at Ofgem before joining the International Energy Agency (OECD/IEA) in 2006 as a Senior Electricity Markets Expert. Maria stayed with the IEA until 2011, during which they held the position of Head of Prospective at Iberdrola Renewables from 2011 to 2012.
Maria then joined the Government of Spain, Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism as the Deputy Director-General for Energy Planning from 2012 to 2014. Maria continued their career at Enagás in 2014, where they first served as the Director of Strategy and Planning and later as the Director of the Investment Office.
In 2020, Maria joined Soltec Power Holdings as a Director of the Board and Chair of the Appointments and Remuneration Committee. Maria also became a Non-Executive Director at Tubos Reunidos Industrial, S.L.U. in 2021.
Throughout their career, Maria Sicilia has gained expertise in energy planning, electricity markets, and strategy and planning. Maria has held leadership positions in both the public and private sectors, demonstrating their extensive knowledge and experience in the energy industry.
Maria Sicilia completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Universidad CEU San Pablo in 1995. Maria also obtained a Master of Laws degree from Universidad Complutense de Madrid between 1989 and 1994. Maria pursued further education at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), earning a Master's in Economic Policy - Regulatory Economics and Industrial Organisation from 2003 to 2005. Maria attended Harvard Business School Executive Education for Global Strategic Management in 2015 and for Driving Profitable Growth in an unspecified timeframe before 2018. Maria also obtained a certificate in Buen Gobierno de las Sociedades from Instituto de Consejeros-Administradores, IC-A in 2019. Currently, they are pursuing the IDP 57 degree at INSEAD, expected to be completed in 2023.
