Rohan Wickramasuriya

Rohan Wickramasuriya has an extensive work experience in the field of data science, research, and academia. Rohan is currently working as the Principal Data Scientist at Endeavour Energy (NSW), where they have held various roles such as Manager, Data Science & Engineering and Senior Data Scientist. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Lecturer in Business Analytics at Sydney Business School, University of Wollongong. Rohan has also served as a representative to the Digital Health CRC at the University of Wollongong.

Rohan has a strong background in research at the SMART Infrastructure Facility, University of Wollongong, where they held positions such as Senior Research Fellow, Honorary Senior Researcher, and Research Group Leader (Advanced Analytics). Rohan'swork at SMART included establishing key strategic partnerships, leading the development of an integrated spatial planning tool, and providing consultancy services to Peoplecare Health Insurance company.

Rohan has also worked as a Data Scientist at Optus and as a Research Assistant/Demonstrator at the University of Wollongong, where they carried out land cover change detection and contributed to practical course material and lecturing. Earlier in their career, Rohan worked as a GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), where they designed and managed spatial components for wetlands mapping projects. Rohan also interned at the Research Institute for Knowledge Systems (RIKS), where they developed and introduced a land use change model.

Rohan started their career as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Peradeniya. Throughout their career, they have demonstrated expertise in data science, spatial analysis, and research, working on projects at national and international levels.

Rohan Wickramasuriya obtained a Ph.D. in Agent Based Modelling/ Spatial Modelling from the University of Wollongong from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that, they earned an M.Sc. in GIS, Remote Sensing, and Spatial Modelling from Wageningen University & Research from 2005 to 2007. Rohan also completed their undergraduate education at the University of Peradeniya, receiving a B.Sc. (Hons) in Agricultural Engineering from 1999 to 2004. In addition to their academic qualifications, Rohan Wickramasuriya holds a certification as a Certified Pega Marketing Consultant from Pegasystems, obtained in 2016.
