Comfort Tapiwa Chamaonde (Pr Eng)

Comfort Tapiwa Chamaonde (Pr Eng) has a diverse work experience in the engineering field. They currently work as the Engineering Lead for Power Generation at Energicity since January 2023. In this role, their responsibilities include providing guidance on renewable energy policies, leading the development of solar PV power generation plants, and managing design engineers.

Prior to this, Chamaonde worked as the Head of Electrical Department at Energy Systems Group - Botswana from June 2019 to December 2022. Here, they designed and implemented solar PV systems, approved designs for solar water pumping applications, and ensured proper planning and risk identification for projects.

From December 2016 to June 2019, Chamaonde worked as an Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer at Olivine Industries (Pvt) Ltd. Their responsibilities included ensuring plant and equipment reliability, managing electrical and instrumentation work, and leading the engineering team.

Before that, Chamaonde gained experience as a Graduate Electrical and Instruments Engineer at Mimosa Mining Company (Pvt) Ltd from January 2015 to November 2016. Here, they were involved in equipment familiarization, instrument testing and calibration, and research on control systems.

Chamaonde started their career as a Mechatronics Engineering Attachee at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital from March 2012 to December 2012. Their responsibilities included evaluating biomedical equipment safety and effectiveness, providing technical expertise on medical technology, and installing and maintaining biomedical equipment.

Comfort Tapiwa Chamaonde (Pr Eng) completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Degree in Mechatronics Engineering at Chinhoyi University of Technology in Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2013. Prior to that, they attended St Albert's High School from 2007 to 2008, where they obtained a Zimsec General Certificate of Education in Advanced Level, focusing on Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Their earlier education took place at Mavuradona High School from 2003 to 2006, where they earned a Zimsec General Certificate of Education in Ordinary Level, covering various subjects.

In terms of additional certifications, Comfort Tapiwa Chamaonde has obtained several qualifications. In 2022, they earned the Energy Transformation Expert certification from Renewables Academy (RENAC). In 2020, they obtained the PRINCE2® Foundation Certificate in Project Management from AXELOS Global Best Practice. Furthermore, they became a Professional Engineer (PE) after receiving accreditation from the Engineers Registration Board Botswana in October 2019. In April 2015, they completed certifications in 132 kV Switching and Substation and Transformer Maintenance from ZESA Holdings.
