Director Of Application Engineering at Energy Vault

Umair Shafqat has a diverse work experience in the energy industry. Umair started their career in 2009 as a Solar Design Engineer at Engineered Renewable Energy Solutions, LLC, where they developed and designed solar-powered wastewater treatment systems. Umair then worked as a Project Engineer at Ross Solar Group, designing grid-tied commercial, residential, and battery backup systems.

In 2011, Umair joined the Global Investment Renewable as a Consulting Engineer. Umair later joined FuelCell Energy as an Electrical Engineer, where they performed power quality analysis and supervised power distribution design.

Umair then worked at Verango Solar as a Consulting Engineer, managing crews of solar installers and inspecting solar rooftop systems. Umair also reviewed electrical and mechanical designs.

In 2014, Umair joined Current, powered by GE, as an Applications Engineer responsible for system design and commissioning of Battery Energy Storage Systems. Umair later worked at Unison Energy as a Consulting Engineer and Principal Electrical Engineer, focusing on component integration of Combined Heat Cycle Power plants for behind-the-meter applications.

In 2017, Umair joined Nidec Industrial Solutions as a Proposal Manager for Energy Storage, leading business development efforts in North America. Umair introduced Nidec's BESS offering and provided responses to customer RFIs.

From 2020 to 2022, Umair worked at Wärtsilä Energy as the Head of Proposals for the Americas region, leading a team in developing proposals for battery energy storage systems.

Currently, Umair is the Director of Application Engineering at Energy Vault. Umair is responsible for creating winning strategies in the bidding phase for turnkey battery energy storage solutions. Umair'sglobal responsibilities include BESS design and cost estimation for EPC, EEQ, and long-term Service Agreements.

Throughout their career, Umair has gained expertise in energy storage, renewable energy, power systems, and project management.

Umair Shafqat earned a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Cleveland State University, which they attended from 2005 to 2008. Prior to that, they studied Computer Engineering at Cuyahoga Community College from 2002 to 2004. Additionally, Umair Shafqat has obtained several certifications, including Engineering for Safety-Battery Energy Storage System from The Institute of Fire Engineers in 2019, Power Systems Analysis & Symmetrical Components, Reactive Power Compensation & Voltage Control, and Surge Analysis & Equipment Application from GE Energy Consulting in 2015. In 2013, they also received the Advanced Solar Designer certification from Sunpower.
