Jake Burns has worked in various roles since 2012. From 2012 to 2014, they were a Resident Assistant at Florida International University. During this time, they created a positive living environment, built a strong community, and developed meaningful programming with a very small budget. From 2014 to 2016, they worked as a Front Desk Assistant/Mail Assistant at Florida International University, where they strengthened the effectiveness of mail delivery service through leadership and organization. In 2016, they were a Graduate Intern for the Office of Nontraditional and Military Student Services at Bowling Green State University. During this time, they researched and studied nontraditional student development theories and assisted in the creation of content and visuals for an office-led presentation. From 2016 to 2022, they worked in various roles at Florida International University, such as Adjunct Professor, Senior Program Coordinator in the Dean of Students Office, Graduate Assistant in Alumni Career Development in the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, and Graduate Intern for Signature Events in the Office of Campus Life. In 2022, they began working as a Customer Success Manager at Enflux.

Jake Burns obtained their Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies from Florida International University in 2015. Jake then completed a Master of Science in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration from the same institution in 2017. In addition, they have obtained two certifications; Fostering Collaboration from LinkedIn in 2019 and Japanese Area Studies from Florida International University in 2015.
