Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally (ESAL)
Christopher Spitzer is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in quantum research and science communication. Currently serving as the Quantum Research Program Manager at Berkeley Lab since July 2020, Spitzer also holds the position of Content Director at Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally since January 2017 and has been working as a freelance science writer since September 2013. Spitzer has previously contributed as a Program Officer for UC Research Initiatives and as an Energy Officer at the U.S. Department of State. Notably, Spitzer served as an AAAS Science Diplomacy Fellow and as a postdoctoral researcher at Washington University in St. Louis focusing on physics research. Spitzer holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Washington and dual undergraduate degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering/Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Engineers & Scientists Acting Locally (ESAL) is a national 501(c)3 organization committed to increasing civic participation among people with backgrounds in STEM. Founded by engineers and scientists experienced in public policy, ESAL serves as a platform for bridging technical expertise with community needs. Operating as a non-partisan and non-advocacy group, we facilitate informed dialogue, encourage innovative problem-solving, and support the integration of scientific insights into local decision-making processes. Our goal is to build a robust network of STEM experts who are dedicated to driving positive change within their communities.
