Athena Bourka

Athena Bourka is a seasoned expert in cybersecurity and data protection, currently serving as a NIS Expert and Data Protection Officer at the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) since January 2014. Prior to this role, Athena worked as an IT security and privacy auditor at the Hellenic Data Protection Authority from January 2004 to January 2014. Athena also contributed expertise as a Seconded National Expert on IT security and privacy at the European Data Protection Supervisor in two separate tenures (September 2008 to September 2009 and October 2011 to May 2012). Earlier experience includes serving as an expert in environmental information systems at the Ministry for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works from January 1998 to January 2004, alongside research and project management activities at the National Technical University of Athens from January 1999 to March 2003. Athena's career began as a project engineer in environmental information systems at PETA AE from January 1996 to December 1997. Athena holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens.
