Dr. Mitchell earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from then St Joseph’s College of Philadelphia, PA. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (PENN). He completed a rotating internship at Philadelphia General Hospital (PGH) followed by a residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). Dr. Mitchell completed fellowships in orthopedic research and sports medicine also at HUP. He attained a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University in Providence, RI. Continuing his post-doctoral studies he has achieved the position of being a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) and accepted as a fellow into the American College of Physician Executives (FACPE).
Dr. Mitchell’s sojourn includes being Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs for the inner city three-hospital network of North Central Philadelphia, with the fundamental goal of providing excellent doctors and the best medical care that is accessible to all, regardless of financial status. He initiated quality programs of prevention, education and treatment to provide a more equitable healthcare system for all citizens.
In addition, Dr. Mitchell maintained a 27–year private practice in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, with a specialization in Arthroscopic Surgery. He also has a 10 year history as team physician for four US Olympic Teams. Dr. Mitchell has travelled and lectured nationally and internationally on many different subject matters.
