Rory Cooney's work experience begins in 2006 when they worked as an Embedded Product Design Engineer at Alps Automotive in Japan. After completing a Japanese language training program, they were assigned to the Alps Automotive Division where they gained experience in designing body electronic modules for major automotive OEMs.

In 2008, they joined Alps Electric Europe GmbH as a Systems Engineer, where they supported the development of vehicle network ECUs and served as the technical expert for emerging HMI technologies. Rory also collaborated with Jaguar Landrover's Research department in the early development of new automotive HMI technologies. In 2011, they became the Systems Engineering Team Leader, overseeing the technical delivery of HMI-focused automotive ECUs. Rory managed the technical development of a holographic Laser Head Up Display technology from research phase to mass production.

In 2014, Rory joined McLaren Automotive Ltd as a Senior Infotainment Systems Engineer. Rory worked as the Vision Systems Lead Engineer, Vehicle Displays Lead Engineer, and Audio System Lead Engineer, contributing to the development of various systems within the infotainment domain.

Rory then moved to DAQRI in 2016 and held the role of Director of Holographic Research. Rory was responsible for driving the next generation of holographic applications from concept to industrialization and commercialization. Rory also served as the Holographics Program Manager, leading a multidisciplinary team in harnessing holographic processes to create new ways of displaying information and controlling light.
