Stephen MacDonald is the Founder and President of EP Group LLC, established in August 2023, focusing on supporting various stakeholders, including States and Utilities, in achieving decarbonization goals through Transactive Energy principles. Prior to this, Stephen served as Managing Director of Business Development at TeMix Inc. from August 2020 to July 2023, where responsibilities included leading go-to-market strategies and developing eco-partnerships. Stephen gained experience at Advantech, initially as Energy & Environmental N.A. Business Development Manager and later as North America Sales Lead, contributing to the development of certified digital substation servers. Additional roles include Membership and Development Lead at Grid Forward and Energy Engineer at Trane, specializing in Small Energy Projects. Stephen's educational background includes a Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Systems Engineering from Oregon State University-Cascades, along with certifications in LEED Green Associate and various engineering studies.

Transactive Energy (TE) uses a two-part retail tariff design that 1) establishes symmetrically priced, buy/sell, tenders to create incentivize for electrical end users, of all types, to use their electrical consuming and producing devices provide time-dependent electrical energy services, and 2) simultaneously supports the necessary system upgrades caused by meeing 100% decarbonization commitments. EP assists firms, in the following technology spaces, understand, incorporate, and demonstrate turnkey TE projects that scale: Grid-interactive Efficient Buildings (GEBs) Micro Grids (MG) Virtual Power Plants (VPP) Electrical Vehicles (EV) Distribution Grid Automation (DA) EPs working knowledge is from leading the commissioning of the industry's first TE demonstrations utilizing the open-standard EMIX (currently still active) in California, known as CalFUSE projects. And, leading the Smart Electric Power Alliance's Transactive Energy Working Group (TEWG); presenting at numerous industry conferences; demonstrating TE integration effort with eco-partners to showcase the V2G use-case of TE at DistribuTECH.
