Strain/Enzyme engineering Scientist at Epoch Biodesign

Soumik Basu has been working in the field of science since 2010. Soumik began their career as a PhD Research Fellow at the Bose Institute, where they studied bacterial biodegradation mechanisms of nitroaromatic and phenylalkanoic acid compounds. In 2018, they were appointed as a Royal Society Newton International Fellow at the University of Oxford, where they worked on a project elucidating how marcescens target and kill the human pathogen Serratia marcescens. In 2020, they joined HLL Lifecare Limited as a Lab Manager, Operations and Quality Assurance. In 2021, they were appointed as an Assistant Manager at Ipca Laboratories Limited. Currently, they are working as a Strain/Enzyme Engineering Scientist at Epoch Biodesign.

Soumik Basu has a comprehensive education history. Soumik obtained their 10th and 12th from Kanchrapara Harnett High School in 2005. Soumik then went on to obtain their B.Sc in Microbiology (H) from Kalyani Mahavidyalaya in 2008. Following this, they obtained their M.Sc in Microbiology from Acharya Prafulla Chandra College in 2010. Soumik then went on to pursue their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Environmental Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Analytical Chemistry from Bose Institute, Kolkata, which they obtained in 2017. Most recently, they obtained their Postdoctoral Research in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Oxford in 2020. Additionally, they obtained a certification in Quality Management Systems & Internal Audit in Medical Laboratories as per ISO 15189:2012 from Medical Education & Learning Point (MELAP) in December 2020.
