Erika Cabrera is an experienced education professional currently serving as Partnership Director at Equal Opportunity Schools since September 2022, where responsibilities include managing the delivery of the Action for Equity model and supporting school districts in increasing diversity within AP/IB/AICE programs. Concurrently, Erika works as a College Essay Coach for MatchPoint College & Career Services, guiding students through the essay writing process. Equal Opportunity Schools provides school districts with the data, tools, and customized support needed to increase and diversify enrollment in advanced courses. In a given year, nearly a million students of color and students from low-income backgrounds are overlooked and excluded from advanced high school courses due to flawed and outdated systems that determine which students belong in these classes. A 2020 EdTrust study showed that this student group is less likely to be placed in AP courses and many attend schools where AP classes are not offered. Yet, when given the opportunity they are likely to be successful. EOS partners with school districts across the country to close this opportunity gap.
