Lead Teacher at EQUITY PROJECT CHARTER SCHOOL (THE)

Gitanya Walker began their work experience in 2013 as an Early Childhood Education Intern at Camp Adventure Youth Services, where they gained valuable experience working with children and integrating theory with practice. Gitanya then joined AmeriCorps as a Jumpstart Team Leader, leading a team of volunteers in providing educational activities for preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. In 2014, they worked as a Student Teacher/Fellow at Excellence Girls Charter School through the Uncommon Schools Fellowship program.

In 2017, Gitanya joined The Equity Project (TEP) Charter School as a Lead Teacher, where they created lesson plans and differentiated instruction for struggling learners, English Language Learners (ELL), and students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Gitanya also observed and evaluated students' performance and development. During their time at TEP, they took on additional roles as Grade Level Lead, responsible for driving learning and teaching within their class and the grade, and as Mathematics Lead, where they facilitated professional development for math curriculum and supported teachers with instructional practices and assessment.

In 2021, Gitanya joined Groome Consulting Group as a Process Consultant, working closely with the founder to support educators with curriculum and instruction development through a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lens. Gitanya created concepts for clients and facilitated trainings and coaching sessions for teachers.

Prior to their teaching roles, Gitanya held a position as a Visual Art Teacher/Art Assistant at Mable House Art Center, where they fostered students' creativity and organized art shows. Overall, Gitanya Walker has a diverse range of experiences in education and a strong commitment to supporting student learning and development.

Gitanya Walker completed a Master of Arts degree in Education from Relay Graduate School of Education from 2016 to 2018. Before that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Georgia State University from 2013 to 2015. Gitanya also holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the same university during the same period. Additionally, Gitanya attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University from 2011 to 2013, although their degree and field of study for this period are unknown. In terms of certifications, they obtained three additional certifications in 2022: "Design Thinking: Customer Experience" from LinkedIn, "How to Talk to Anyone (Blinkist Summary)" from LinkedIn, and "Introduction to UX Design" from CareerFoundry.
