Francesco Cesarini has had a diverse range of work experiences in the tech industry. Francesco became a founding member and director of the Erlang Ecosystem Foundation in 2019, where they played a key role in setting up the foundation and chaired the Fellowship and Sponsorship working groups. In 2023, they joined St. Stephen's School as a member of the Board of Trustees, providing leadership to help the school achieve its educational mission.
Before this, Cesarini worked at Erlang Solutions, starting in 1999. Francesco initially served as a senior technical consultant and trainer, working with both large corporations and startups. As the company grew, they transitioned to the role of technical director, responsible for events, product, and research strategy. Francesco also taught courses and occasionally undertook short-term consultancies and architecture reviews.
In 2010, Cesarini became a lecturer at the University of Oxford. Prior to that, they gained experience as an author, co-authoring books on Erlang programming and designing for scalability with Erlang/OTP. Francesco also filmed Erlang By Example master classes and spoke at O'Reilly events, serving on the OSCON program committee since 2010. Before their academic and writing endeavors, Cesarini worked as a technical consultant at Ericsson Software Technology (Erlang Systems) from 1996 to 1999, where they contributed to the development and design of fault-tolerant, real-time, distributed, and scalable applications.
From 2003 to 2012, Cesarini also served as a lecturer at the IT University of Gothenburg. Throughout their career, they have maintained a focus on Erlang, leveraging their expertise in the language to contribute to various projects and initiatives in the tech industry.
Francesco Cesarini completed their education with a strong focus on computer science. Francesco began their academic journey at St Stephen's School, where they obtained an American High School Diploma & International Baccalaureate between 1985 and 1989.
Afterward, they pursued further studies in computer science at Umeå University from 1991 to 1993. Here, they achieved a Master's degree. Building on this foundation, they proceeded to Uppsala University, where they earned an MsC (Master of Science) in Computer Science from 1993 to 1996.
Throughout their education, Francesco Cesarini demonstrated a consistent commitment to expanding their knowledge in the field of computer science, earning both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in the subject.
