Andreas Weingessel has a strong background in risk management and financial planning. Andreas began their career in 1995 as an Assistent Professor at Technische Universität Wien, conducting research in Neural Networks, Applied Statistics, and Machine Learning. In 2000, they transitioned to the banking industry, starting at Erste Bank as a Risk Manager for Operational Risk. Andreas then progressed to become the Head of Operational Risk Control and later the Head of Group Risk Control at Erste Group Bank AG. In 2011, Andreas joined Erste Bank as the Head of Strategic Risk Management Austria, where they pioneered the establishment of a new department and led various sub-departments focused on risk management. From 2016 to 2018, they served as a Member of the Board of Directors at Erste Reinsurance. Most recently, Andreas has been with Erste Group since 2020, initially as the Head of ICAAP, Reporting AT, Rec. & Res. Planning, and currently holds the role of Head of ICAAP, Stress Testing & Risk Planning. In these positions, they have been responsible for steering the overall risk profile of the bank, conducting simulations and stress tests to assess risk exposure, and integrating ESG risk into risk management frameworks.
Andreas Weingessel obtained their Dipl-Ing degree in Applied Mathematics from Technische Universität Wien in 1994. Andreas went on to earn their Dr. (PhD) in Applied Mathematics from the same university in 1999.
