Markus Rodlauer

Markus Rodlauer serves as an Executive Advisor at the European Stability Mechanism since January 2019, providing strategic, policy, and operational advice. Previously, Markus worked at the International Monetary Fund from September 1983 until December 2019, holding various roles including Deputy Director and Mission Chief for China. During this tenure, Markus managed IMF strategy and operations across multiple countries in the Asia and Pacific Department and played a crucial role in human resources management, overseeing significant organizational changes during the Global Financial Crisis. Markus also led IMF operations during critical periods in Latin America and served as Senior Resident Representative in both Poland and the Philippines. In addition to professional roles, Markus contributed to the McLean Youth Soccer board from 2010 to 2013, establishing a successful soccer tournament and enhancing the organization's infrastructure. Educational qualifications include a Dr. juris degree and an MA in International Relations from prestigious institutions.

ESM - European Stability Mechanism

The ESM is the crisis resolution mechanism for euro area countries. The ESM issues debt instruments in order to finance loans and other forms of financial assistance to euro area Member States. The decision leading to the creation of the ESM was taken by the European Council in December 2010. The euro area Member States signed an intergovernmental treaty establishing the ESM on 2 February 2012. The ESM was inaugurated on 8 October 2012 and is based in Luxembourg.
