Sumeyra Demir

Sumeyra Demir is a quantitative analyst currently working at Essent since August 2022. Previously, Sumeyra served as a PhD researcher at Eindhoven University of Technology from January 2018 to June 2023, focusing on novel AI methods to enhance energy price forecasting, specifically through reinforcement learning in energy trading. An MSc internship at the University of St Andrews in 2017 involved text mining and machine learning techniques for analyzing social media sentiment and its correlation with credit risks of public companies. Prior to these roles, Sumeyra was a mathematics teacher at the Ministry of Education of Turkey from 2008 to 2016, mentoring candidates for the Istanbul Mathematics Olympics. Sumeyra holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence for Electricity Markets, a Master’s in Applied Statistics and Data Mining, a Master’s in Philosophy of Mathematics, a Bachelor's in Mathematics, and a high school diploma in Science.
