David Herman

David Herman is the current CEO at Essentia Health. David has previously held positions at American Academy of Ophthalmology, The College of St. Scholastica, Essentia Health, Minnesota Hospital Association, American Board of Ophthalmology, and Vidant Health. In January 2014, they became a member of the board of directors at the American Board of Ophthalmology and held the position of Chair of the Board in 2021. From August 1988 to June 2011, David Herman was a consultant in ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic.

David Herman received a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. David then attended Mayo Clinic School of Medicine where they received their Doctor of Medicine. After completing their residency in ophthalmology at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, they pursued a Master of Science in Medical Management at The University of Texas at Dallas. Herman's most recent educational endeavor was an Ocular Immunology and Uveitis fellowship at the National Institutes of Health.
