Matthew Smith

Matthew Smith has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Matthew is currently employed at Essex Management, LLC, where they hold the position of Senior Software Engineering Manager since March 2023. Prior to this role, they were a Software Engineering Manager at the same company from September 2020 to April 2023.

Before joining Essex Management, LLC, Matthew worked at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. Matthew started as a Software Development Intern in June 1995 and later became a Software Developer from January 1996 to November 2012. During this time, they led design sessions for software development projects, coded, tested, and maintained data-processing software, and continuously improved software to enhance data quality and reduce manual effort. From December 2012 to April 2017, Matthew served as a Sr. Software Engineer at Acxiom, where they maintained and upgraded third-party OCR applications and led design sessions for software development projects.

In November 2017, Matthew joined the Frederick National Laboratory again, this time as a Programmer Analyst IV. In this role, they wrote RESTful APIs in Python 3 to support NCI-MATCH, a significant application upgrade project that they later took over as the Project Leader. Matthew successfully led a team of ten people to complete the development and deployment of the application with no downtime. Matthew held this position until September 2020 when they transitioned to the role of Software Manager I.

Overall, Matthew Smith has demonstrated expertise in software engineering and management roles throughout their career, successfully leading teams and contributing to the development and improvement of various applications.

Matthew Smith obtained their B.A. degree in Computer Science from Harding University, where they attended from 1991 to 1995. In addition to their degree, they hold a certification as a Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) from Scrum Alliance, which they obtained in July 2021.
