Steve Cheney

Steve Cheney has a long and varied work experience. Steve began their career in 1995 as Co-Founder of SequoiaWood Fence, where they earned their own individual California State Contractors License (C13) and revolutionized the company's operations through computer-automation. In 1997, they became an Independent Software Developer, designing, developing, and selling custom productivity software solutions for small business owners. In 1999, they joined Integrated Device Technology as a Product Marketing Manager, driving hardware/software strategy for Linux-based reference platforms targeting mobile, infrastructure and consumer clients. In 2000, they were brought on to teach at Kaplan after scoring in the top 99.7 percentile on the GMAT. In 2008, they joined Morgan Stanley as an Associate in Technology Investment Banking and Investor Growth Capital as an Associate in Venture Capital. In 2010, they joined GroupMe as VP of Business and Platform, where they were instrumental in the company's $80M acquisition by Skype. Steve also joined TechStars as a Mentor/Advisor and TechCrunch as a Contributing Writer. Finally, in 2013, they became Co-Founder, President, and Board of Directors at Estimote, Inc., where they run the worldwide business and operations teams.

Steve Cheney attended UC Santa Barbara from 1995 to 1999, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Steve then went on to attend Columbia Business School from 2007 to 2009, where they earned a Master of Business Administration with a focus in Strategy & Marketing.
