Roland Philippsen

Roland Philippsen has a diverse work experience in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence.

Roland currently holds the position of Chief Product Officer at EthonAI, a startup company that develops software tools for manufacturers to detect and prevent quality losses on a large scale.

Prior to this, they served as an Advisory Board Member at FOUND, a company that revolutionizes the hiring process by having employers pitch opportunities to top talent using AI-based matching and gamified assessments.

From 2017 to 2022, Roland worked at Applied Intuition as an Engineering Lead, where they were responsible for growing and leading the engineering team. Roland also onboarded and mentored junior and mid-career engineers and served as an individual contributor, manager, and tech lead.

Before that, they worked as a Senior Roboticist at X, the moonshot factory from 2015 to 2017.

Roland has also gained experience in academia, working as an Assistant Professor at Halmstad University and as a Research Consultant at Volvo Technology from 2011 to 2014.

Roland has also held positions at Willow Garage, Stanford University, ETH Zurich, and performed consultancy work.

Throughout their career, Roland has conducted research, published papers, supervised students, and contributed to open-source projects in the field of robotics and AI.

Roland Philippsen obtained their Master's degree in Microengineering from EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) from 1995 to 2000. Roland went on to further their education at EPFL and completed their PhD in Microengineering from 2000 to 2005.
