Marjorie Burns

Co-Founder at ETS Laboratories

Marjorie founded ETS Laboratories with her husband, Gordon, in 1978. She received her BS in Biological Sciences from UC Davis, then continued her graduate studies in Viticulture and Enology with Dr. Cornelius Ough and worked as a research assistant in his lab. Marjorie received a Master's degree in Microbiology, conducting research on wine yeast and the effect of solids on fermentation rates in white wine. Marjorie is a TTB-certified chemist for analysis of wines, distilled spirits and beer. Marjorie gained hands on winery production experience at several Napa Valley wineries. She also began the fledging wine program at Napa Community College, teaching Wine Appreciation Courses and basic Winemaking courses that utilized hands-on, small-lot fermentations in her basement laboratory, to many winery owners and winemakers. Marjorie is a professional member of the American Society for Enology & Viticulture, the American Society of Microbiology, and the American Chemical Society. Since its founding, Marjorie has focused on developing and expanding the analytical and technical expertise of ETS Laboratories to meet the constantly changing needs and demands of the wine industry, as well as being a positive force in the local community where she lives with her family.
