Rebeca Gutiérrez López

MTG Instrument Quality Tools Manager at EUMETSAT

Rebeca Gutiérrez López has a diverse range of work experience in the field of satellite technology and remote sensing. Rebeca started their career at ONGAWA, a non-governmental organization, where they worked as a Radio Communications Technician as part of a cooperation program in Mozambique. Rebeca then joined the Optoelectronics and Laser Technology Group at University Carlos III of Madrid as a Research Intern, working on optical imaging technologies for early breast cancer detection. Rebeca then moved on to the Biomedical Technology Center at the Technical University of Madrid, where they worked as a Software Engineer.

Afterwards, Rebeca transitioned into the private sector, joining Argongra as an R&D Project Manager. In this role, they managed GIS and remote sensing applications projects, including the development of a corporate GIS for the oil pipeline industry and the design of super resolution algorithms for geostationary satellite imagery. Rebeca also worked on solar radiation nowcasting systems for optimization of solar thermal power plants.

Rebeca then joined EUMETSAT, the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites. Rebeca started as a Consultant, working on the Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) instrument data processing system. Rebeca was involved in monitoring and investigating anomalies, as well as assisting in the development and validation of software tools for commissioning tests. Rebeca later became an Algorithm Coordination Engineer, working closely with Thales Alenia Space on the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) programme. Rebeca acted as an interface point between the contractor and the data processing team, coordinating algorithm development and integration.

Rebeca's most recent role at EUMETSAT was as the MTG Instrument Quality Tools Manager. In this position, they were responsible for the development and delivery of the quality tools for the MTG system under the space segment contract. Rebeca worked on instrument simulators, ground prototype processors, satellite characterisation and calibration databases, among others. These tools were utilized for system integration, verification, and validation purposes.

Throughout their career, Rebeca has gained valuable knowledge and expertise in algorithm development, data processing, and project management in the field of satellite technology and remote sensing.

Rebeca Gutiérrez López pursued their education at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid from 2001 to 2008. During this period, they completed an Integrated BSc-MSc in Telecommunications Engineering, with a major in networks and communication systems. Rebeca then furthered their studies at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, where they obtained an MRes in Remote Sensing Systems from 2010 to 2011. Their focus during this time was signal processing, computer vision, optimization, and data mining.
