Anastasia Pharris is a highly experienced public health professional currently serving as the Principal Expert in Infectious Diseases and Group Leader for STI, blood-borne viruses, and TB at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) since February 2011. Additional roles at ECDC include Expert in Coronavirus and HIV Expert. Anastasia’s work focuses on the surveillance, monitoring, evaluation, and prevention of HIV, STIs, and hepatitis B and C. Prior to ECDC, Anastasia completed a PhD at the Karolinska Institute, studying HIV-related stigma in Vietnam, and worked as a Research Officer managing a multi-partner EU research project aimed at enhancing HIV and STI care in Uganda and Zambia. Educational credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sciences/Public Health from Karolinska Institutet and multiple degrees from The Johns Hopkins University, including Master’s degrees in Public Health and Community Health Nursing, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Registered Nursing and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Philosophy from Seattle University.
