Edward Claessen

Edward Claessen currently serves as the Head of EIB Global's Regional Representation for East Africa at the European Investment Bank (EIB), a role assumed in February 2023. Claessen previously held the position of Acting Head of Equity Funds & Microfinance at EIB Global from January 2022 to January 2023, managing a division consisting of multiple units and 37 staff. From January 2017 to January 2022, Claessen led a team of investment professionals focused on Non-EU Infrastructure & Climate Funds, and earlier served as Head of Infrastructure Funds, overseeing investments in infrastructure and renewable energy globally. Claessen's career includes significant roles at the European Investment Bank, European Investment Fund, and UCP, as well as engineering management positions in large-scale infrastructure projects. Claessen holds an MBA from IESE Business School and an MSc in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology.
