Petri Backman

Petri Backman is an experienced professional currently serving as Deputy Head of Unit - C2 "Secure Society" at the European Research Executive Agency (REA) since July 2021, previously holding the position of Head of Sector (Legal & Finance) within the same unit. Backman's extensive background includes roles as a Research Programme Manager at the European Commission - REA from 2010 to July 2021, and as an Adviser at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in 2010. Prior positions also include Senior Officer at the European Defence Agency, Officer in the Finance and Contracts Section of the European Commission's EU Delegation to Croatia, Economic Adviser for a project funded by the Government of Montenegro, and a Diplomatic trainee for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Educational qualifications include a Master of Science (Econ) from Hanken School of Economics and additional training at the European Security and Defence College and the Naval Academy.
