Steffen Petersen has an extensive work experience in the field of cardiovascular medicine. Steffen currently holds the position of Deputy Director at the British Heart Foundation Data Science Centre in Health Data Research UK since 2023. Prior to that, they served as the President of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) and President-Elect at the European Society of Cardiology. Before that, they were a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Director for Research at Barts Heart Centre at Queen Mary University of London. Steffen also held various roles at Queen Mary University of London and UCLPartners, focusing on cardiovascular medicine and academic leadership. Additionally, they have contributed to the field through roles in different organizations and institutions, such as the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and University of Oxford. Previously, they worked as a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford and as an Assistenzarzt at the University Medicine of the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz.
Steffen Petersen holds an Abitur degree from Willigis Gymnasium Mainz, which they obtained from 1981 to 1990. Steffen then attended Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 1992 to 1998, where they earned their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree with a focus on Inflammatory bowel disease. Later, they pursued a Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Medicine from the University of Oxford, completing it from 2003 to 2005. Petersen also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Clinical Effectiveness from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, which they acquired from 2011 to 2014. Additionally, they obtained an Executive MSc in Health Economics, Outcomes and Management in Cardiovascular Science from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) between 2016 and 2018. Petersen has also pursued several certifications in various subjects, including Data Management for Clinical Research, R Programming, Statistical Inference, and more.
