Sergio Hernandez has extensive experience in education and community engagement, currently serving as the Equity Lead, Director of Family & Community Engagement, and Early Childhood Principal Consultant at the Illinois State Board of Education since January 2016. Hernandez is also an Advisory Council Member for the Illinois Early Learning Council and co-chair of the PDAC ESL/Bilingual Credential Ad-Hoc Committee, where initiatives have focused on developing ESL/Bilingual credentials in collaboration with various educational stakeholders. As the first Latino School Board Member and Chair of the Policy Committee at Evanston/Skokie School District 65, Hernandez has significantly influenced local education policy.
