Jan Mattsson has a diverse work experience starting in 1997 as the Director of the Bureau of Management at UNDP. Jan later became the Executive Director of UNOPS in 2006, leading the organization's efforts in sustainable project management, infrastructure, and procurement practices. During their time at UNOPS, they oversaw a significant turnaround and implemented change management strategies. In 2014, Jan Mattsson joined the World Bank as a Member of the Inspection Panel, ensuring compliance with environmental and social safeguards. Jan also founded M-Trust Leadership AB in 2014 and served as Founder and CEO. In 2017, they co-founded Everimpact and served as Chairman, focusing on accelerating decarbonization through reliable data. Jan Mattsson also played vital roles at the Museum for the United Nations - UN Live, 4Life Solutions, World Benchmarking Alliance, IEEE (as a Member of the Technical Committee on Carbon Neutrality), and The Management Lab (as a Board Member).

Jan Mattsson earned a Civilingenjör, Teknologie Doktor degree from Linköping University between 1976 and 1983. In 2020, they obtained a Certificate in Corporate Boards from Styrelseakademien, Swedish Board Academy. The same year, they also completed the ESG Competent Boards Certificate and received the Global Competent Boards Designation (GCB.D). The field of study for the GSB.D degree is not specified.
