Matt Leebody has an extensive work history that spans over several companies and industries. Matt began their career in 2007 as a Supervisor at SPAR, where they gained experience in staff management, customer interaction, and stock management. In 2009, they transitioned to a role as a PhD Research Student at Queen's University Belfast, focusing on Spintronics and the use of spin in hard drives for data storage. After completing their research in 2014, Matt moved to BT, where they held various roles including Software Developer, API Gateway Lead Manager, and Lead Security Engineer. During their time at BT, they developed proficiency in API development, security practices, and software development. Matt attended Royal Belfast Academical Institution from 1998 to 2005. During this time, they did not obtain a specific degree or field of study.

Matt then went on to Queen's University Belfast, where they completed a Bachelor of Science (MSci) in Physics from 2004 to 2009.

Afterwards, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Physics at Queen's University Belfast from 2009 to 2014.

In addition to their formal education, Matt has obtained several certifications. In 2012, they completed the Java SE 7 Programming Ed 2 PRV course from Oracle. In 2013, they obtained certifications in Software as a Service from edX, and Oracle Service Bus 11g: Design & Integrate Services Ed 1 LVC from Oracle. Matt also achieved a Black Belt in Karate (Dentokan) under Sensei Martin Rice in the same year. In 2015, they obtained a Certificate in Information Security Management Principles from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Most recently, in 2019, they became a Chartered Engineer through the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
