Senior Vice President, Turkey Division at Exceldor

Anthony Tavares is the Senior Vice President of the Turkey Division at Exceldor. Anthony has held this position since August 2012. Prior to joining Exceldor, Tavares served as the Chief Operating Officer at SunOpta Inc. from June 2008 to August 2012. SunOpta is a leading global company specializing in the sourcing, processing, and packaging of natural and organic food products with a focus on vertically integrated business models.

Before their time at SunOpta, Tavares served as the Chief Executive Officer at Maple Lodge Farms Inc. from August 1999 to June 2008. Maple Lodge is a family owned Canadian company with operations in fresh poultry, processed deli meats, pet food, feed milling, hatcheries and protein recovery. During Tavares' tenure, Maple Lodge had sales of $550 million, over 2400 employees, and 11 plants in Ontario , New Brunswick and Virginia.

Prior to their time at Maple Lodge, Tavares served as the Executive Vice President at CANADA BREAD COMPANY from June 1998 to August 1999. CANADA BREAD COMPANY is a member of Maple Leaf Foods. From February 1992 to August 1998, Tavares served as the President at Maple Leaf Poultry, also a member of Maple Leaf Foods.

Tavares began their career in the food industry as the Vice President of Finance at Belcourt Group from June 1983 to May 1987. Anthony then served as the President at Tyson Canada Inc./ Agrimont Inc. from May 1987 to January 1992.

Anthony Tavares is a Canadian accountant who has received the Chartered Accountant designation from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. Anthony also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University, where they majored in accounting and computer systems.

They are on a team with Geneviève Arsenault - Vice President, Quality Assurance, R&D, and Animal Welfare, Éric Cadoret - Vice President, Operational Excellence, IT, and Major Projects, and Christian Jacques - Vice President, Finance. Anthony Tavares reports to René Proulx, President and CEO.
